On May 3, 2019, 56 students from JCI ushered in their undergraduate graduation ceremony in UC. Invited by Neville Pinto, President of UC, Professor Ruijin Liao, the vice president of CQU, attended the graduation ceremony on behalf of CQU and witnessed the successful completion of the five-year undergraduate study and graduation of the 56 JCI students graduating in 2019.
On the morning of the same day, Ruijin Liao was seated on the ceremony stage, together with Neville Pinto, the President of UC who gave the 56 JCI graduates the awards and shook hands with the students one by one to congratulate them.

After the graduation ceremony, UC held a celebration luncheon for JCI graduates. Ruijin Liao delivered a speech on behalf of CQU, congratulating the students on successfully completing their studies and achieving a bachelor’s degree from UC, and extending his lofty respect and heartfelt thanks to the hardworking CQU and UC teachers and parents. He said that last year first batch of JCI graduates had handed over the first satisfying “transcript”, setting up a new record for CQU with a further study rate of 89%. The second batch of graduates made further progress and achieved more impressive results and realized a new breakthrough for JCI. All these are the best proof of the two universities’ cooperation in running JCI and win-win development. He hoped the classmates that they would not forget their original aspirations, work hard, and always take up the mission and responsibility to the motherland, nation and mankind, and strive to be a warm, responsible and sentimental person. He yearned for that they would try their best for the national prosperity, peoples’ rejuvenation and human civilization.

The JCI Graduates
During the visit, Ruijin Liao also had an in-depth meeting with Professor Kristi A. Nelson, the provost of UC. Both the two universities agreed that they would strengthen exchanges and cooperation in more fields, further expand the enrollment scale of JCI and improve the joint running school quality. After the meeting, Ruijin Liao also visited UC’s Library and the Engineering Department Building, accompanied by professor Baoping Tang, the deputy dean of the College of Mechanical Engineering Chongqing University, and Xiang Gao, the deputy director of the Office of International Affairs Chongqing University.

JCI was established in 2013. Relying on the outstanding engineering advantages of Chongqing University, JCI reformed the traditional engineering cultivation model and introduced the advanced Co-op model of UC for the first time in China. The Courses taught by JCI are English, aiming to cultivate the research-oriented engineering talents with a strong sense of homeland, broad international vision, solid engineering foundation and outstanding innovation ability. Over the past six years, JCI has firmly grasped the important opportunities of globalization and international development, overcome various difficulties and challenges during running the college, fully absorbed and integrated the advanced educational concepts and teaching models of CQU and UC, and vigorously promoted and realized the high-quality teaching resources, international communication platforms and personalized training programs, which have highlighted the advantages and quality of the joint college running, won a good reputation and been recognized and trusted by more and more students, parents, employers, and universities at home and abroad. Among the second batch of graduates, 2 students received the Summa Cum Laude, 10 students received the Magna Cum Laude, and 8 students received the Cum Laude. What’s more, 23 students have received admission notices from prestigious overseas universities such as Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, Carnegie Mellon University, and 21 students have gotten admission to well-known domestic graduate schools like Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
CQU will hold a graduation ceremony and award ceremony at the end of June. Graduates of JCI will receive a bachelor’s degree from CQU and a double bachelor’s degree from both CQU and UC.
