In order to help students to choose courses more correctly and effectively, standardize the management of the retaking/refreshing courses selection of JCI, and abide by the rules of the retaking/refreshing courses selection of CQU and UC, this provision is formulated.
I.Retaking Courses
1. If students fail to pass the final exams and make-up exams of courses for the first time, they must retake the courses. Otherwise they cannot complete the credits required for graduation, which will delay their graduation;
2. If students pass exams of the retaking courses, the courses’ scores will show the actual scores and the GPA will be calculated as passing grades;
3. If students retake courses during the school semesters, and the retaking courses’ time does not conflict with the major courses’ time that should be taken at the school semester, they can choose courses in CQU academic affairs system; if it conflicts with the major courses’ time, they can click “ignore the conflict” button and complete the retaking courses choosing.
4. If students retaking courses during the Co-op semester, they are permitted to choose courses in CQU academic affairs system after obtaining the permission of their Co-op advisor. The maximum number of retaking courses is two in a Co-op semester, and the Co-op score in that semester will have some impacts.
II.Refreshing Courses
1. If the students pass courses for the first time but feel that the results are not satisfactory and still have room for improvement, they can choose to refresh the courses;
2. The refreshing CQU courses’ scores only show the highest score and do not change GPA;
3. If students refresh courses during the school semesters, and the refreshing courses’ time does not conflict with the major courses’ time, they can choose courses in CQU academic affairs system and are supposed to take part in the classroom study; if it conflicts with the major courses’ time, they are forbidden to refresh the courses.
4. Students are forbidden to refresh courses during Co-op semesters.
III.UC Courses Management
1. If the retaking / refreshing courses belong to UC, students must contact the UC advisor to complete the necessary procedures and complete the courses selection on Catalyst;
2. Students must fill in a UC form before choosing a course. They must make a decision of choosing to average the two scores or directly replace the first grade with the second grade (regardless of whether the second grade is higher or not);
3. Students can retake / refresh one UC course for free during each school semester and during the first four years, they can retake / refresh UC courses no more than four as well as no more than 12 credits;
4. Before retaking / refreshing UC courses, students must inform the JCI academic affairs advisor in advance and complete to choose courses in both CQU and UC academic affairs systems and pay the fee. If students choose courses on only one side, the other side will not recognize the retaking/ refreshing courses’ scores. And students must be responsible for all the results of causing the difficulties in the credits recognition and transcripts printing.
IV. Self-study Application
1. Students can fill out a self-study application form before the end of CQU courses selection, if they have mastered the learning content before the courses begin, or their retaking courses’ time conflicts with their major courses’ time. Each semester can apply for only one self-study course. And it is forbidden to study the UC refreshing courses by themselves.
2. Self-study students must communicate with the teachers about how to recognize the grades and ask the teachers to sign the self-study application forms before handing it over to the CQU academic advisor during their school semesters.
3. If students self-study CQU courses, they only need to fill in the Chinese version of the self-study application forms; for self-study UC courses, they need to fill in both Chinese and English version of the self-study application forms, and hand them over to their CQU and UC academic advisors respectively;
4. Students can also not apply for self-study, and their grades will be recognized in a general way.
V. Other Issues
1. CQU general education courses, seminar courses, and practical courses are not held make–up examinations, thus they can only be retaken. In addition, they are forbidden to refresh;
2. If students fail compulsory courses, they are supposed to retake; if they fail electives, they can either retake or choose other alternatives;
3. Refreshing grades cannot be for CQU’s scholarship evaluation, merit evaluation and recommendation of graduate students exempted from examinations.
